Winter, the hero in Winter's Kiss, has a hard time of it in his story. A Watchman of the Validus bloodline, the strongest of all the seven pure vampire bloodlines in Europe, he's loyal to his family and his lord, but there is competition for his loyalty in his heart. For many years, he has seen the same girl walk past him at the mansion gates, heading for her home in the nearby village, and he has watched her grow into a beautiful woman. Nika has stolen his heart, but his delay in approaching his lord and asking for permission to turn her, costs him dearly.
Nika passes him one night and heads through the forest to return home, but before she can get there she's attacked by a group of wolves. Winter races to rescue her, but he's too late. Winter's Kiss is not just a story about forbidden love. It's also about seizing the day and doing what matters to you, and not waiting for tomorrow to do it, because tomorrow everything you wanted might have slipped away. It's a very emotional story as Winter journeys with Nika, knowing that he can't remain with her, but hoping that he might find a way someday to be with her, and also knowing that she can never be like him now. I think it's important to not wait when you want something, but to go out there and get it, and that's what this story is all about. It's also about challenging the rules and finding a way to be with the one you love, regardless of what others might think.
